THE EFFECT OF INF?LL WALLS AND DAMP?NG SYSTEMS ON BEHAV?ORS OF RE?NFORCED CONCRETE BU?LD?NGS AGA?NST EARTHQUAKEKeywords: S?nümleyici Sistemler,Dolgu Duvar,Betonarme Binalar,Performans De?erlendirilmesi,S?nümleyici Sistemler Abstract: In this study, damping characteristics of reinforced concrete buildings considering the damping effects of the infill walls are discussed in case of the performance evaluation and design. The contribution of the infill walls to the behavior of reinforced concrete was investigated on the structure model according to the performance criteria enforced in the Turkish earthquake code. Reinforced concrete building is first analyzed for the code proposed design earthquake by mode superposition method and suitable infill wall characteristics were determined. Model structure with decided infill walls was later analyzed in time domain by three different local maximum credible earthquake records and differences in results are observed in case of the structure with infill walls and bare frame. Results of the frame with infill walls show great effectiveness in the member forces and structural behavior. In this study, the performance of the columns at the critical floor (basement) level are compared over the member displacements, shear forces and bending moments in performance objectives. It has been found that there are significant differences in column shear capacity requirements when using infill walls as structural members. It was observed that as the compressive strength on the infill wall is increased, shear forces due to earthquake are increased and the column shear forces become decreased
