The First Concept Dictionary in U？ūl al-F？qh: al-？udūd Fi'l-U？ūl

The concept dictionaries have been written in a period following the development of scientific disciplines. The concept dictionaries written in the field of us？l al-f？qh also have been taken place some periods after codified of Islamic jurisprudence. The conceptualization process, which started with the formation of the fiqh literature, has taken a new step with well-organized and independent works. The first work of concept dictionary in u？？l al-Fiqh which has survived the present day appeared in V./XI. century. As far as we know, the first dictionary study on this field is Ibn F？rak’s al-？ud？d fi’l-u？？l. Although this work includes notions of u？？l al-f？qh as well as the concepts of theology (science of kalam), it is so important study because it is the first study that contains the concepts of u？？l al-f？qh in a well-organized way. Also it is a significant study because it has pioneered the efforts of the concept dictionary in u？？l al-f？qh and it has a great effect on them. It is also noteworthy in terms of determining the framework of the concepts of u？？l al-f？qh. In this study, I will discuss the structure and content of al-？udud fi’l-u？？l which is the first work of concept dictionary in u？？l al-Fiqh and its importance and effects on studies of concept dictionary in u？？l al-f？qh
