Abstract:

Ottoman Empire reorganized various ethnic groups under its This can be replacebwith ‘reign’ as the system of Ottoman Nation. In this system, non-Muslim citizens lived in peace but their relationships with Muslim community were limited. After that, by Royal Edict of Reform on 28th February 1856, new rights were given to non-Muslim citizens and all the political and social regulations gained legal status with The Ottoman Basic Law in 1876. The essential objectives of these regulations were for the Muslim and non-Muslim citizens’ having secure uniformity with the upper identity “Ottomanism”. In parallel with these developments, Ottomanism Thought in the eye of intelligentsia and Ottoman executives came to the fore as a solution to ensure the unity of Empire. In this respect, Ottomanism was an idea bringing new initiatives such as common identity, citizenship etc. to Turkish political life
