AL-KIND？ AND HIS INTERPRETATIONS OF SOME QURANIC VERSES

Despite many scientific studies that have revealed his different aspects, there is no study available to demonstrate Kindi’s efforts in tafsir. This study, therefore, deals with his understanding of the Qur’an and his approach to the interpretation of the Qur’anic verses, as seen in his paper titled On the Prostration and Obedience of the Heavens to Allah, in terms of tafsir methodology. This study aims, in other words, to point out his interest in and relation with tafsir. Moreover, the other part of discussion in this study focuses on the determination of who is a mufassir, and whether or not Kindi can be recognized as one. As a result, the study suggests that Kindi is not a mufassir; however, he is rather a Muslim who is trying to communicate with the Qur’an, and look for his life and ideas in the holy book in which he believes
