Kairopolitics: Towards a Temporal Critique of Capitalism

As existential realities and ontological foundations of our lives, time and space shape our perception toward the social and the universe; they are also shaped by this perception. Time and space, as phenomena that are socially constructed rather than being static, natural ahistorical and non-social are undoubtedly experienced as certain temporality and spatiality in capitalism which is the fundamental determinant of sociality we live in. This article, by focusing on two contemporary concepts, two different forms of subjectivity, indebtedness and precarity which are becoming increasingly widespread in the age of late capitalism thinks on the relation between capitalism and time by questioning the possibilities of constructing a time (and emancipation) politics through two concepts corresponding to two different temporalities, two different future imaginations that can be traced back to the ancient Greeks, khronos and kairos
