Investigation of the Positive and Negative Aspects of Social Media Usage of Students in the Eyes of BILSEM Teachers with Delphi Technique

It is certain that the internet, which is the most effective power of our modern world, is an indispensable element in almost every field such as education, entertainment, culture and art. So, the Internet can be regarded as the greatest force that shapes social life. Young people who adopt and implement technology in the fastest way are the most common users of the Internet. According to Turkey Statistical Institute’s Household Use of Information Technology survey results individuals aged 16 to 24 are ahead in the computer and Internet use. In addition, considering the 80,9% rate, it can be clearly stated that the Internet is used for social media. Social media has a great impact on daily life. Even social media shapes daily life. Especially the evaluation of the impact on young people, the determination of the positive and negative effects is very important for the future of social media and Internet use. The aim of this study is to examine the social media usage of special talented students in our country and to determine the attitudes of teachers about the positive and negative aspects of social media. Delphi technique was used as the method in the study. Delphi technique is used as a consensus tool in situations where there are differences of opinion about similar situations. By using Delphi technique, it is aimed to reconcile individuals and groups who look at a problem situation from different perspectives without coming face to face. According to the findings obtained from the result of data analysis, BILSEM teachers do not think that their students use social media efficiently. In addition, B？LSEM teachers stated that social media contributes to the organization of students and making activities and announcements easily. While the results obtained are similar to previous studies in the field, they will also shed light on future studies
