Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to adapt the motivation scale based on expectancy-value theory at secondary school level to high school level. Within the scope of this aim, motivational scale, which was prepared by Sar?tepeci (2016) based on the expaxtancy-value theories studies of Eccles et al. (1993) and Wigfield and Eccles (2000), was investigated in terms of scale specifications. The study group consisted of 627 participants with 338 students in exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and 289 students in confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in the adjustment process of the scale. Two factor structure consisting of 9 items has formed by performed EFA. The first factor has explained 49.64% of the total variance and has called the "expectancy and value" in the context of the items content and the literature. The second factor, called "belief toward the achievement", has explained 15.16% of the total variance. The validity of the factor structure obtained by EFA was tested with CFA. According to the results of CFA, it was determined that the factor structure reached by EFA is appropriate. Reliability and item analysis were conducted with the final scale created as a result of EFA and CFA. Accordingly, it was found that the internal consistency coefficient of the scale is .83, expectancy-value factor reliability coefficient is .82, the reliability coefficient of the belief toward the achievement factor is .93
