BUILDING OF THE MAARIF HOTEL IN ALAIYE AND ITS HISTORICAL PROCESS (1912-1943)

Turkish Nation has constituted important institutions in the field of education in the different geographies after accepting the Islamic Religion. In this respect, all the Turkish States, from the Great Seljuk State to the Ottoman State, provided important services. In the fulfilment of educational activities in the Turkish geography, the contributions of the state, state employees, scholars and philanthropists were also great. In the last years of the Ottoman Empire, as well as various corners of the country, philanthropic people made great efforts to develop the educational life in Alaiye too. Thus, the people of Alaiye managed to build different educational institutions with cooperation. In addition, the philanthropic people of Alaiye built a work called as the Maarif Hotel. Later on, this work was donated to the teaching staff, which was first given to rent as a hotel and then as a government house, and a large number of educational institutions were made with the income obtained. This work, which Alaiye people made through cooperation, was burnt down in 1943
