Abstract:

Introduction: Developing submissive behaviors and having low emotional intelligence adversely affect personal development of an individual and cause a decline in success. For this reason, it is important that midwifery students should have high emotional intelligence and low submissive behaviors in terms of their personal and professional development. Aim: This study aimed to determine midwifery students' emotional intelligence, submissive behavior levels, and the factors affecting them. Method: The study was carried out in descriptive model. The questionnaire forms were applied to 70 students. Data were collected using an information form, the Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale (EIES) and the Submissive Acts Scale (SAS). Results: The emotional intelligence level was found to be low in 45.7% of the students, medium in 37.2%, and high in 17.1%. The mean SAS score of the students was 123.57 + 32.54, and the mean EIES score of the students was 34.8 + 7.02. The difference between the mean scores of Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale (EIES) and Submissive Acts Scale (SAS) and the individual characteristics was determined to be statistically insignificant (p> 0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that a significant part of the students had low emotional intelligence, and that the mean SAS score was moderate
