Abstract:

The nomadic Turks, who are called Türkmen or Y?rük, have brought a new perspective to the nomadism. These communities, who had to migrate seasonally in winters and summers, had an opportunity to find a shelter in the Ottoman Empire, Great Seljuk, Tukey Seljuk and the Republic of Turkey. In order to Turkify the places which were generally conquested until the Republic of Turkey was founded, these communities were forced to live a sedentary life with an increased urbanization in the Republic of Turkey. Tribes who did not choose a settled life had a limited area to maintain their nomadic lives. Today, we can see that the nomads, who still carry thousands of years of rooted cultures, are a cultural heritage in terms of their practices about marriages, activities for babies, and the ceremonies for the dead ones. In addition, nomads are also living evidence of the transfer of women's place in the Turkish society
