Replacement of Fish Meal by Poultry By-product in Trout Feeds

Food requirement of men increases in parallel to population increase. Aquatic food resources are the most important element in meeting the protein requirementof humankind. Aquatic food resources are in high demand due to its high protein, ω3 fatty acids, vitamins and mineral contents. Since the production of fish and other aquatic resources from natural waters is not enough to meet the requirements of humankind, farming of aquatic organisms in captivity is a necessity throughout the World. Feed price is considered as the highest expenditure in aquaculture farms. Fish meal is the main ingredient used in feed formulations in aquafeeds. Because fish meal is an expensive and finite resource, the efforts to find alternative protein resources that are cheaper and easier to produce, to fish meal have intensified by scientists over the last decades. Soybean products, lupin, meat meal and poultry by-product meal are examples of protein resources that can be used as alternatives to fish meal in aquafeeds.
