Abstract:

Body fat percentage (BFP) is one of the factors affecting athletic performance. Hence, it's affected by different parameters such as genetics, diet, volume and duration of training, life style and general health status. In this study; BFP of underwater hockey and finswimming athletes were evaluated while their weekly training duration was taken into consideration. For this aim, 9 elite underwater hockey, 8 elite double fin and 8 elite mono finswimming athletes from different clubs participated in this study voluntarily and by having permission from their clubs. Skinfold measurements, body density (g/ml) and BFP of athletes were measured and SPSS 20 program was used for statistical analysis. As a result; statistical difference was not found the comparisons of BFP among the groups. However, inverse ratio was determined between weekly training duration and BFP of the athletes. In literature, there wasn't any index about BFP for underwater hockey and finswimming athletes. Therefore data of this study is important for educating athletes about dietary behaviors, monitoring athletes' fitness levels especially body compositions and planning training sessions
