Evaluation of Wahidī and Celalāyn Exegesis from the Standpoint of Ulūm al-Qur’ān

Interpretation activities to understand the Holy Qur’an better, goes back to the time of Prophet Muhammed. Over time, these activities have developed and gained a systematic identity. The concept of sciences of Qur’an, which is one of the subjects of Qur’an interpretation, has an important place in the analysis of the Qur’an.It is known that Wahidī, one of the Qur’an interpreters of the 5th century, was an important figure in Arabic Language and Literature as well as in the field of Qur’an interpretation and Qur’anic sciences.His work, “al-WajēzfīTafsīr al-Kitāb al-Azīz”, which is a great interpretation of Qur’an, is considered among “Tafsīr al-Celalāyn” sources. In addition, Tafsīr al-Celalāyn, which was written by Celāl ad-Dīn al-Mahallī and Celāl ad-Dīnal-Suyutī, is accepted as “the essence of the Interpretation of Qur’an” and taught in different educational institutions for centuries.In this study, after the definition of the concept of sciences of Qur’an, these two works will be compared within the framework of the concept of sciences of Qur’an.In the comparison, the subjects such as asbābal-nuzūl, naskh–mensūh, muhkam and mutashabih (Clear and Ambiguous Verses), al-hurūf al-muqatta (detached letters) and al-wujūhwa al-nazāir will be discussed. There will also be an assessment of the extent to which the Interpreters benefit from the Qur’anic sciences and the method they used in this process. Besides these, the lives and other works of the authors examined will be briefly mentioned
