BADE (WINE) IN TASAWWUF

The word “bade” (wine) has been used in a different sense than its literal meaning in the Islamic tasawwuf and culture, especially in sufi poetry. In order to distinguish between the real and metaphoric wine sufists called the wine forbidden in the shariat as “superficial wine” and called the metaphoric wine as “spiritual wine”. While the use of the metaphorical meaning of bade or wine in the history of tasawwuf and sufi poetry continued constantly, it also underwent certain changes on the other hand.
