Utilization of Waste Casting Sands as Raw Material in Ready Mixed Concrete Production by Industrial Symbiosis in BursaKeywords: At?k D?küm Kumu,Bursa,Endüstriyel Simbiyoz,Maliyet Abstract: Turkey has an important place in metal casting industry in worldwide. The disposal of wastes generated in metal casting production activities, which is one of the important industrial types in the world, is a serious problem to be solved. Waste casting sands can be evaluated as raw material for another industry by industrial symbiosis. However, when not properly managed, they are stored on the grounds of foundries, causing water and soil pollution, endangering the environment and human health, or shortening the life of the landfill where they are carried and causing economic damage. The disposal costing of waste casting sands will decrease by using in ready mixed concrete production as alternative raw materials. The researches in the world have revealed that waste casting sand can be used as an artificial aggregate in ready mixed concrete production by 20%. In this study, the amount of waste casting sand that occurred foundries in our country in a year was calculated, the negative effects on the environment were evaluated and cost analysis was made from an economic point of view. It is found that waste casting sand can be consumed in the ready mixed concrete by using as an alternative raw material instead of carrying to landfill sites. In addition, it is calculated that the concrete plant and the foundry in a year could make a profit of 58 694 $, 293 471 $, respectively. The economic analysis was done according to using waste casting sand in one year as artificial aggregate 8% instead of 20% in the production of the ready mixed concrete plant operating near the foundry which in the province of Bursa
