Abstract:

The pollutants involved in the waters vary with each passing day with the industrialization and technology, so analysis technologies used to control these pollutants are limited and in some areas ineffective. Antimicrobial compounds have been accepted as the most dangerous pollutant species for the microorganism resistance caused by their widespread use in our country and around the world. Antibiotics that are widely used in the developing world are frequently used in hospitals and veterinary medicine. Antibiotics that cannot be removed by classical treatment methods (physical, chemical, biological) cause environmental problems in receiving environments. Introduction of antibiotics to the environment; It depends on the frequency of excretion, the dosage and amount used, the ability of the microorganisms in the wastewater treatment plant to metabolically transform and the tendency to hold on to the solids. High antibiotic concentrations have a toxic effect on aquatic organisms in superficial waters and low antibiotic concentrations constitute antibiotic resistance. For this reason, uncontrolled access of antibiotics to the environment should be prevented. In this study, the treatment of wastewater containing β-lactam group (cefazolin, cephalexin, cefoperazone, cefuroxime, cefaclor and ampicillin) antibiotics with endocrine disrupting antibiotic compounds in Northern Europe and throughout the country was investigated by using the fenton process. The selected antibiotics were dissolved in ultra-pure water and the synthetic wastewater samples were prepared at a concentration of 300 mg/L (each antibiotic compound concentration: 50 mg/L). As a result of the experimental studies, the optimum conditions of pH: 4, [Fe/H2O2]: 1/10 were obtained, and >80% COD, >60% TOC removal efficiencies were obtained. According to these results, it is understood that fenton is one of the advanced treatment processes and it is an effective method for removing selected antibiotics
