Abstract:

Objective: In order to reduce the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases, individuals need to acquire healthy lifestyle behaviors. This research was conducted as a cross-sectional study to investigate the levels of healty lifestyle behaviours of coronary artery disease patients. Method: The population of the study consisted coronary artery disease patients admitted to the cardiology outpatient clinics of academic medical center between 01 January- 31 March 2017. The mean age of the patients’ was 57.13± 13.29 years (minimum 18-maximum 80). The study sample size included 351 voluntary patients selected by random sample method. Data was collected by using a form including socio-demographic characteristics and “Healty Lifestyle Scale II”. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum and percentage parameters were used in the assessment of the data. The normal distribution conformity assessment of the data was tested by the Kolmogorov Smirnov test and the parametric tests were used in the advanced analysis since the significance values were greater than 0.05. Independent samples t test was used for two independent variables and One-way ANOVA for more than two independent variables. Results: Based on the findings of the study, the average score of “Healthy Lifestyle Scale II” scale was found as 132.75± 3.37. When male and female were compared, men had higher mean scores of self-realization, interpersonal relations, stress management and lower nutrition point scores (p <0.05). The mean of physical activity and self-realization decreased as age increased (p<0.05), while the average level of physical activity increased as education level increased (p <0.05).Conclusion: As a result of this study, the categories in which participants had the lowest and highest mean scores were physical activity and interpersonal relationships, respectively. It was determined that the mean score of physical activity subscale changed inversely with age and directly increased with education level
