An Exemplary Interdisciplinary Understanding: Mu？ammad b. Yusuf al-Sanusi

Muhammad b. Yusuf al-Sanusi is one of the most prominent scholars in the west Muslim world. There was a crisis in his era and he was witness to the downfall of Andalus and Spanish pressure over North Africa. Therefore, he devoted his scientific experience to suggest solutions for problems of Muslims. He wrote several books in various scientific areas and reflected an interdisciplinary approach on them. He combined Kalam with Sufism due to be renowned as a mutakallim and sufi. In this respect, he was particularly active in making Ash’arism rooted in Africa and his works have left deep traces in the subsequent Muslim thought. al-Aqaid al-Sanusiyyah (a series of aqaid texts) is the most famous work for al-Sanusi. al Aqide al Sughra, for instance, has been taught as a textbook in the Muslim world.
