Determination of The Psychology Students' Attitudes Towards Schizophrenia: Case of Ankara Y？ld？r？m Beyaz？t University

The aim of this research is to determine the attitudes of psychology students towards schizophrenia. 10 participants were interviewed using the maximum diversity sampling in this study. A semi-structured interview form was administered to the participants. Qualitative data were obtained and a holistic single case design was used. The data were interpreted with descriptive analysis. In this context, there are 3 main themes and 7 sub-themes. At the result of the study, it was found that the participants had both positive and negative attitudes toward schizophrenia, more dilemmas on the subjects such as work and marriage, and the emotional patterns they described for the individuals who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia were different from the emotions that others described for people with schizophrenia. Certain patterns of participants 'past experiences with schizophrenia were observed to have no effect on participants' current thinking. As a result, it is thought that participants should be a little more familiar with schizophrenia because of their psychology education, but more education and study should be done in order to increase the awareness for schizophrenia
