Application of Eu-Dy Doped Strontium Aluminate/Epoxy Composite Films

Abstract:

One of the luminescent materials is the Strontium Aluminate. From the phase diagram, 5 different binary phases (Sr4Al2O7, Sr3Al2O6, SrAl2O4, SrAl4O7 ve SrAl2O19) can be obtained. Among them, SrAl2O4 has excellent chemical stability and long-lasting luminescence. Different additives have been used to have more luminescence. Among these additives, Eu and Dy are the most effective and rare earth elements. In this study, Eu-Dy doped strontium aluminate powders were prepared by sol-gel method. To fabricate SrAl2O4, proper chemical precursors (Strontium nitrate, Aluminum nitrate) were chosen and their solutions were prepared. 0.01 mol% of Dysprosium nitrate and Europium nitrate was added to the solution formed by mixing their solutions. Gelling powders at room temperature were dried in the oven at 180 ° C for 24 hours. Dried powders were sintered at 1200°C for 4 hours. Thermal, morphological and crystallographic properties of SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+powders were characterized by using thermogravimetric/differential scanning calorimetry (DSC/TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, respectively. It was observed that the powders were of SrAl2O4 structure and no undesirable phase was present. SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ powders and epoxy resin composites were prepared and applied on ceramic surfaces. It was observed that the applied composite showed long-lasting luminescence
