The Secret of Fluency in Ibn Sinan Al-Khafacy's Thoughts

Ibn Sinan al-Hafac？ (d. 466/1073) firstly examined the concepts of fluency and eloquence and tried to reveal the difference between them in his book named Sirru'l-Fesaha, for which he stated that he wrote it in order to bring the disagreements that arise about what the fluency and its truth are to light. In this context, he mentioned that fluency is a feature of the words, but eloquence is of the words together with the meanings. In this article, how Hafac？ defines the main concept of fluency, on which he puts particular emphasis on, will be examined by referring to the views of some important scholars of eloquence before him. Therefore, a number of views in the works about fluency and eloquence, which he used as references when he was writing his work, will be included and the points he benefited from or disagree with the previous scholars will be also mentioned. In addition, based on the examples of poetry and prose, the conditions that both a fluent word and a fluent statement must possess will be covered item by item. As a result, it is possible to think that this work is called Sirru'l-Fesaha because it is the most important detailed work on the subject of fluency in Arabic language, and the subject emphasized by Hafac？ is fluency
