H?rbe Helale Necropol Area Excavations 2018Keywords: Ge? Antik ?a?,Roma D?nemi,?lü G?mme Adetleri,Arkeoloji,mezarl?k Abstract: Research in the archaeological site within the campus area of Mardin Artuklu University shows that this area has been inhabited in different periods such as the Paleolithic Period, Late Roman Period, Byzantine Period and Artuklu Period. The archaeological site of H?rbe Helale, which is registered as an archaeological site, excavations carried out in the area at the northeast of the car park of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Mardin Artuklu University indicate that the area in question is a cemetery area. The excavations carried out in this graveyard area in 2018 revealed of approximately 70 individual human bones in and around 24 graves, including 22 stone cist graves and 2 simple earth graves. This cemetery area, which dated to the Late Roman Period, provides important information on the belief system and burial customs of the Mardin region in the Late Antiquity
