Teacher reviews about reformed high school mathematics curriculum

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is exploring the opinions of high school mathematics teachers about curriculum that was reformed in 2017. The study group of this research is 11 teachers that work at Kocaeli in 2018-2019 academic year and subordinated by Ministry of Education. Content and descriptive analysis are used to analyze the data that researcher gets from teachers. The findings from this study, "The positive feedbacks of teachers about the new curriculum", "The negative feedbacks of teachers about the new curriculum", "Views of the teachers for the usage of information and communication technology skills", "Views of the teachers about the usage compass and ruler" and "The suggestions of the teachers for the new curriculum." Under these headings, according to the results of the analyzes obtained themes were created. As a result of the analysis of the data that obtained from the study, teachers found the new program positive in terms of reducing the intensity of the subjects and organizing the achievements. They have criticized some issues about accepting students' readiness levels. Teachers have expressed positive opinions about encouraging the use of information and communication technologies, however; and that they should be supported to use information and communication technologies. One of the suggestions of the teachers for the new curriculum that parallel with this idea is increasing the in-service training. Teachers also emphasized that all schools and classrooms should have the same quality material support. They also have requested that specialists have to introduce the program to teachers with every details
