Investigation of some physical and chemical properties of agricultural soils in Simav district

This research was carried out on 46 soil samples collected from 0-30 cm depths from 14 rural fields in order to determine the general properties of the soil where different crops grown in Simav district. Soil pH, EC, organic matter and texture classes were determined. Results of the analysis of soil samples related to research area were compared with the limit values and fertility conditions of the soils were evaluated. According to the findings; while the soil pH varied from very strong acid to slightly alkaline, the majority showed neutral and slightly alkaline properties. There were no salinity problems in all soils, CaCO3 content of 56.4% of the samples were low limy and limy, and approximately 55% of soil samples were analyzed moderate and high-level organic matter content. Soil texture of the samples varied between loam and sandy loam; and 31.2% loam, 28.1% sandy loam, 18.7% clay loam, 7.8% loamy sand, 7.8% sandy clay loam, 3.1% clay, and 3.1% silty loam were determined. In general, variability of the soil parameters was found as highest in organic matter (CV=122%), and lowest in pH (CV=15%)
