Traditional Woven Fabrics of Afyonkarahisar

Woven products are among the basic needs of human beings. In almost every region of Anatolia, weaving has been performed to meet that need. Afyonkarahisar, which has been home to many civilizations, it is not an exception in this respect. Civil registry books that set light to the production status of the period and the city annuals show the fabric weaving status in Afyonkarahisar and surroundings. Cotton, linen, silk, wool yarns were used in fabrics in the region; these fabrics were utilized in many areas of daily life. In the center of Afyonkarahisar, the fabric textiles produced in the settlements such as ？uhut, Sand？kl？, T？naztepe districts were among the most important commodities traded. Mechanization has affected handicraft production as well as hand-woven fabric production. Today, there is no traditional fabric weaving performed domestic. In this study, the field research technique was used and the written sources were scanned. The present situation of Afyonkarahisar traditional fabric textiles, which have been dying away, is documented and recorded and it was aimed to be written sources. Historical development and technical, material and artistic characteristics of traditional fabric weaving in Afyonkarahisar are studied; and considering the data collected, some suggestions recording the revivual hand-woven fabric production one made
