Antibacterial Effect of Hypericum atomarium Boiss. Extracts against Clinical Staphylococcus spp.

Hypericum atomarium Boiss. is a perennial herb in the Hypericum genus. In this study antibacterial effect of methanol (MeOH), chloroform (CHCl3) and water (H2O) extract of H. atomarium has been investigated against 19 clinical Staphylococcus spp. (S. aureus, S. hominis, S. haemolyticus, S. epidermidis). The antibacterial activity of plant extracts was evaluated using agar well diffusion method. According to the results of this study H. atomarium extracts displayed strong antibacterial activity against all tested strain and the most antibacterial effect was determined by chloroform extract with 20,7 mm zone diameter.
