From Tarhana Stalls to Merchandise of Chinese Brands: Analysis of the Problems Related to the Acculturation and Socio-Cultural Transformation Interlaced with Tourism in ？irince

？irince has remained in the memories of many people with in-village sales counters where traditional village products are sold, like tarhana. However, in recent years, the number of these sales counters have been relatively increased and Chinese made products have been found frequently in these sales counters. The evolution of ？irince’s authentic presentation to the sale of Chinese made products encourages researches to question what kind of effects tourism development produces. The main aim of this research is to follow the traces of tourism-related acculturation and to understand the social transformation of tourism development process through a sample destination. Qualitative data were obtained using a semi-structured interview technique from a sample of 28 local people living in Sel？uk/？irince and 11 professional tourist guides who took touist groups to the region. Findings obtained indicate that tourism is widely accepted both economically and socio-culturally in ？irince and local community has a sense-making expressed with positive examples regarding tourism development. It is determined that the discourses give some clues about the acculturation process caused by tourism development. This acculturation is in the form of emitomising for social life, spreading positive behaviour patterns and perceived emulation to upper culture. However, there has been no measurable local life transformation that would allow the follow-up the results of the acculturation and it has been understood that the local people maintains the basic lines of their lives in a social and cultural environment that reflects the course of their natural change. On the other hand, it has been seen that the problems caused by the tourism development on social life have been clearly perceived by local community.
