The Effect of Mass Migration on the Labor Market: Syrians in Turkey

Unlike economic migrants, mass migrants are motivated by problems such as internal conflict, war, and environmental disasters. Recent years have seen suddenly considerable mass migration in some parts of the world. Studies have portrayed such mass migration as an unfolding disaster. Furthermore, these sudden and unplanned waves of mass migrations are creating serious problems in destination countries that must be addressed urgently. Migrants need access to basic means of survival such as food, shelter, and security. In addition, they have higher-order needs such as healthcare, language learning, education, and access to labor markets in proportion to how long they stay. This study uses a literature review to examine the effects of mass migration by Syrian refugees on labor markets.
