Ending Fears In Ahmet Hamdi Tanp?nar's Novel Of PeaceKeywords: Roman,Tanp?nar,Huzur Abstract: Ahmet Hamdi Tanp?nar is known as a scientist, poet; essay, article, novel and story writer in Turkish literature history. His novel Peace was published in the Cumhuriyet newspaper in 1948. The work, which brought great innovations both in terms of fiction and content, drew attention to the fact that it is far from the chronological timeline and the consciousness flow technique it contains. In this study, the theme of fear will be discussed in Peace as a symbol of unrest. Fear is used in the novel in two ways: general and special. Wars are the points that create the concept of general fear. One of these wars was the Liberation War, which Mumtaz witnessed in his childhood, and the other was the World War II. The possibility that the World War II could start at any moment is the leading a fear from the beginning to the end of the novel. The special fear in the novel arises from the characters in the novel and their private lives, especially Mumtaz, Nuran and Fatima. Mumtaz, the main hero of the novel, lives with his fears. Emphasizing that he is vulnerable, Mumtaz's fears begin with the death of his father and continue throughout his life. Mumtaz, who lived his childhood during the War of Independence, witnessed the fears and c osts of wars on people at a young age. In their later years, he lives with the fear that the sick ?hsan could die at any moment. Mumtaz lives in deeply fear of losing him even when he was in love with Nuran. Nuran, the leading hero of the novel, is in fear for both her daughter Fatma and Mumtaz
