Analysis of Turkey Second League Football Competitions in terms of the Home Advantage

This study was carried out in order to examine and analyze the advantage of being home team in 2nd Football League of Turkey. The data obtained were recorded in SPSS software, and frequency and percentage values were calculated and interpreted. In total of 2945 games played in 5 seasons of 2nd Football League of Turkey, home teams won 1290 games (%43.8) and lost 795 games (%27.0). 860 games ended with draw (%29.2). Among the teams that played in 2nd Football League of Turkey in all of 5 seasons, the highest advantage of home team belongs to Sar？yer (65.36%), while the lowest advantage belongs to Pendikspor (54.54%). While the home team advantage of the teams that have succeeded to upper league in 5 years was found to be 57.81%, the same rate was calculated to be 63.85% for the teams dropped from the league. In conclusion, taking the advantage of being home team in a game is one of the factors affecting the success of football teams. Because of the familiarity with the field, spectator effect and lack of strenuous displacement journeys, it was observed that the teams in the inner field were more successful and gained an advantage
