THE EVALUATION OF THE PSYCHO EDUCATION PROGRAM’S EFFECTIVENESS BASED ON PROBLEM SOLVING ABOUT NURSING STUDENTS’ ADAPTATION TO THE UNIVERSITYKeywords: Uyum,Problem ??zme,Hem?irelik ??rencisi Abstract: The research has been done as one-grouped pre-test-post-test patterned intervention study with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of the psychoeducation program’s on the first grade nursing students’ adaptation to the university and change in perceiving problem-solving skills. The research has been effectuated with 46 nursing students. In the psychoeducation program, the subjects which consist of self-awareness, awareness development, effective problem solving skills and positive behaviour development are applied in total of eight sessions. The sessions are held once a week for about 90 minutes in four separate groups. The data is collected in the first and last session of each group with student information form, university adjustment scale and problem solving inventory. Data is analysed by SPSS 15.0 statistical program. Number-percentile distributions, t-test, Pearson correlation and Mann-Whitney U test are used in evaluation. At the end of the program, the average of the students' scores on the university adjustment scale have increased statistically and students’ average score on the problem solving inventory significantly been decreased from a statistical point (p<0.05). There has been determined a strong negative correlation between the UAS and PSI before the psychoeducation program (r = -.583, p <0.05) and after (r = -.507, p <0.05). It has been stated that the higher the scores from the UAS, the lower the scores from the PSI. It is observed that as the students' problem-solving skills perceptions evolve, the level of adaptation to the university seems to increase. it is recommended that the content of the applied psychoeducation program should be developed in accordance with the needs of the students through qualitative studies; considering that the work is done on the intervention group and so as to include the control group of similar studies to be carried out later
