Information, Attitudes and Behaviors of Patients About Periodical Health Examination

Abstract:

Objective: The purpose of the periodic health examination is to reduce morbidity and mortality by identifying early signs and risk factors of preventable and treatable diseases in accordance with gender and age groups of individuals without active complaints. The purpose of this study is to identify the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of periodic health examinations of patients who are intended to shed light on studies that will remove obstacles in the way that people apply to the hospital for periodical health examinations. Material Method: In our descriptive study; a questionnaire consisting of 17 questions was applied to 137 people in the age range of 18-90 years who applied to 3 polyclinics affiliated to Düzce University Medical Faculty Family Medicine Branch for any reason. In addition to the sociodemographic information of the patients, the questionnaire was asked about the existence of chronic diseases, the presence of chronic diseases in their families, the periodical health examinations, the reasons, the reasons for the periodical health examinations they wanted to make according to their gender and age group. Results: 33,8% of the patients answered "yes" to the periodical health examination and 66% answered "no". There was a statistically significant relationship between the status of referral to periodic health examination and educational status and the presence of chronic illness in first degree relatives (p <0.05). Conclusion: This study found that participants did not have sufficient information about the periodic health examination and if the information is provided to the persons, the application rates for the periodical health examination are considered to increase. In this respect, it is possible to reach the majority of the society; particularly for family doctors who have a much higher incidence of non-active complaints than other health care facilities
