The Effects Of Banking Sector On Sustainable Development In Turkey

Sustainable development is a concept trying to be solution oriented to the problems of current generation without affecting from the prosperity levels of future generations. For the implementation of sustainable development, not only individuals and societies but also all the institutions and organizations have direct or indirect effects. As one of the institutions, banking sector in Turkey was examined and existing effects on this field were tried to be revealed. The number of people and area that banks, one of the important financial bodies in Turkey, with employers, customers, shareholders and subsidiaries is high. As a consequence, the positive and negative effects of receiving support of such an institution on the way of realization of sustainable development aims were revealed. The negative and positive effects of 7 credit types out of all the credits provided for Turkey were examined. Moreover, according to active size of assets of Turkey, the negative and positive effects of top fifteen banks, with their projects and studies, on sustainable development in terms of economic, social and environmental aspects were revealed
