“Commanding Right and Forbidding Wrong Movement” During the Civil War in Baghdad in the 9th Century

Classical Islamic history books and biographical literature –tabaqat –are not just a royal chronology or war history, they also contain a great deal of socio-historical information. In this study, we covered a social movement that emerged in 201/816 at the time of Abbasid Chalif Ma’m？n in the midst of the civil war in Baghdad to overcome anarchy. This movement, which we called "Emir bi’l-ma？r？f" according to its motto, gives us interesting clues about the behavioral reflexes of an Islamic society that has fallen into crisis and chaos
