THE EFFECT OF LYRICS ON MUSIC IN TURKISH MAQAM MUSIC VERBAL WORKS

In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of poem on the whole of the work in terms of meaning in Turkish maqam music the majority of the repertoire of which consists of verbal music. In the study, the components constituting the verbal music (form, maqam, usul, and poem) were first determined and explained. It was focused on "poem", which is one of these components, and the effect of poem on music was examined. At first, the divisions of the words resulting from the placement of prosody poem in usul were explained with examples. Furthermore, the works in which the emphasizes of the words during speech are used were reviewed, and in accordance with these reviews, the composing techniques used to emphasize the meaning of words were determined. It is seen that maqam had a significant effect on the work in verbal works composed in the past. However, there have been changes in composing techniques in time, and it has been determined that composers also emphasized the meaning of the poem and formed the melody, maqam and rhythm components in their works
