The Different Usage of Poems Containing Words of Wisdom in Ravza al-Uq?lKeywords: ?iir,Hikmet,Mesel,Ravzatu’l-?ukūl,Muhammed b. ?āz? Abstract: Words of wisdom reflecting the judgements of wise people’s past experiences have been valued much by people as they help the individual and the society to overcome the difficult situations they faced. For this reason, the poetry containing such words of wisdom (al-Hikma) can be regarded as a part of universal knowledge. They do not belong to a particular time or a society. On the other hand, the past experiences and knowledge about the human, morality and science have also an aspect that is peculiar to a particular time and society. Societies want to pass such unique interpretation of the universal knowledge and experience to the next generations. The one of the foremost tools passing them to the next generation is the poetry containing the words of wisdom. Although what is meant by a word of wisdom remains unchanged, there may be different ways of their expressing them, depending on who the audience is and the way the poet expresses himself or herself. This study intends to compare the al-Hikma in Muhammed b. ?āz?’s Ravza al-?uqūl with their previous versions in other sources in order to reveal the change that happened over time
