Reflection of Narkissos Myth on Visual Arts

Myths which are product of human imagination have been the subject of many artists’ paintings with their universal message beyond their meaning. Some of them point out the personal complexities and some reveal invisible and complex structures of social relations. Narcissos is the one of myth which about social and individual complexity of human being. Narcissos, one of the most described myth in visual arts, come into prominence with its messages and multiple meaning structure such as narcissism, transformation and erotism. This study aim to examine the symbolic values of Narcissos myth and how its messages recieved by the artists who reflected them in their works. The studies of artists whom working on myths in art history are analysed by literature and document review. In the analysis of the these, it is seen that artists treat Narcissus as a means of expression in the context of self-esteem, metamorphosis, aesthetics and gender.
