A STUDY ON SYRIANS UNDER TEMPORARY PROTECTION IN KONYA

After the civil war in Syria in 2011, almost three and a half million Syrians have fled to Turkey. These huge immigration wave faced by Turkey and the world has become a permanent condition day by day and it has raised the need for a social and economic cohesion. In this study, experiences and common problems of Syrians, who took refuge in Turkey and prefer Konya as a settlement, are handled in the framework of a field research with qualitative research methods. Observations and examinations were conducted in four neighbourhood inhabited by the Syrian refugees intensively, eight home were visited and 13 representatives of closely related institutions/organizations with Syrians in Konya who were determined by purposeful sampling technique were interviewed in depth through a semi-structured form within the scope of the research. The research results show that Syrians under temporary protection are facing several problems mostly about identity, accommodation, registration, language, education, employment and legislation that require urgent solutions.
