INVESTIGATION OF PHYSICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS OF ELITE TEAKWANDO AND POOMSE PLAYERSKeywords: Taekwondo,Poomse,Anaerobik Gü?,Kuvvet Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the physical and physiological parameters between elite taekwondo and poomse athletes. Participants were 45 volunteer athletes (25 elite taekwondo athletes and 20 poomse athletes) from the Turkish National Taekwondo team. Participants’ BMI, right and left handgrip strength, VO2max, standing long jump, anaerobic power, 30 m sprint and medicine ball throwing for distance were measured and analyzed. The obtained data were evaluated in the SPSS 16 program. In the statistical analysis, t test was used in dependent and independent groups. The left handgrip strength (p<.05), 30 m sprint (p<.05), medicine ball throw for distance (p<.05), and anaerobic power (p <.01) measures were significantly higher, while BMI, right handgrip strength, VO2 max (ml.kg/min), and standing long jump (m) measures were not significantly different. In this study taekwondo athletes were found to be more successful in parameters requiring explosive power compared to poomse athletes. It is thought that this is caused by the specific movement of taekwondo sports and training method
