On the Light of Example of Zuhd Transformation of the Concepts from Concrete to Abstract in Sufism

Sufism is a situation science. For this reason, before anything else, sufism finds its true meaning in the experiential area of life. However, in the process of becoming a science of theology, this experiential field has also begun to find its counterpart at the conceptual level. Because of that, these concepts have gained a depth of meaning according to sufi's life and thought criteria. In this way, sufism has reached its own language and conceptual ground. Such that, these concepts have gained a structure that only the sufis can understand; and they have been equipped with special meanings that remain unknown for the non-sufi always. But it is the result of a long period that each concept acquires a specific meaning. From the beginning period on Zühd, the process of about four hundred years are particular importance in point of showing the semantic stages of a concept. These stages, according to our opinion, have followed a course that proceeded from concrete to abstract. In the article, this semantic transformation will be tried to be followed up on the zuhd example. To follow the semantic transformations of concepts is important in terms of better analyzing the periodic differences of the sufism history, the spiritual development process of the sufi character, and the reasons for the expansion of sufism to the theoretical level
