THE GREAT TEMPLE ARCHITECTURE AND EFFECTS OF THE HITTITIEKeywords: Hitit Uygarl???,Hitit Mimarisi,Büyük Tap?nak Abstract: The Hittites from ancient anatolian civilizations was one of the most important one that has given a new shape to the architecture and art of anatolia. This civilization was first introduced to the world by Charles Texier in 1834 with ‘Hattusha’. The Hittite capital. Hattusha, a mountainous city, was a unique capital in anatolia during its period even in terms of the location selected. With the recent and past archaeological studies, stone foundations has revealed the architecture of a magnificent city. The Great Temple is at the head of the most important architectural structures in Hattusha.This study aims to reach the interactions of the Great Temple Complex on anatolian architecture and its design criteria. Research has shown that the Great Temple is not only a sanctuary but also a large complex that houses spaces with different functions such as work places or silo rooms. In accordance with religious ceremonial rituals creation of private areas and sanctuaries in temples, indicative of a rational design. It is an exemplary architectural structure with the plan formation, which expands horizontally and divided into functions also with its dominant position and material selections.Therewithal it is seen that anatolian Seljuk-Ottoman mausoleums and Topkapi Palace, which were built much more recently than Hittite architecture, also showed similar features. In this respect, once again it is possible to say that the Hittite civilization architecture and art had played an important role in the formation of the anatolian architectural identity
