Land Demands of Greece at the Paris Peace Conference (1919) and The Decision of Occupation of Western Anatolia

Greece attended the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 as one of the victorious states of the First World War. The aim of Venizelos, the leader of Greece was to realize his dream of Megali ？dea by extending the borders of his country at the Paris Peace Conference. To assert his claims Venizelos used unrealistic population statistics, the power of propaganda, his Greek friends in Europe and his politic abilities. He claimed that the Greek population in the territory he demanded was more than the Turkish population and the Turks persecuted the Greeks. He used the Italian occupation of Anatolia without the permission of European states in favor and he managed to impress the members of the Supreme Council. On 6 May,Venizelos’ diplomatic efforts came up with result and the Supreme Council allowed Greece to occupy Western Anatolia.Following the decision of the Supreme Council, on 15 May 1919, the Greek troops landed in ？zmir
