A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY: MASCULINITY AND IDENTITY CONFLICT, AN ASSESSMENT OF THE ALTERATION OF MUSLIM MAN IN TURKEY

This qualitative study that composed at the core of transformation/alteration of Muslim men phenomenon aims to reveal respectively the reality of phenomenon and the existence of identity conflict. In the study that purposeful sampling is used, eight participants from six cities were reached. The verbal approvals have been received from the participants after informing about the research. Then semi-structured interviews have been conducted. As a result of conducted interviews, it has been seen that the Muslim men profile in Turkey are apt to imitate the presented hegemonic and idealized masculinity model of the World gender order. Apart from that the local hegemonic masculinity which occurs as a result of the government is imitated among secular Muslim men at specific locations and times. The obtained information has revealed that there is another group who rejects the change and clashes with various groups
