About The Article "Abdullah Sur and a Turkish Poetess Nigar Han?m

Abstract:

Abdullah Tevfik (Sur) is a little known writer of Azerbaijani literature in particular and of Turkish literature in general. The fact of him dying at an early age and his works not being published in bulk, are among the main reasons for this lack of fame. Abdullah Sur, being born in 1882 in Gence, Azerbaijan, lived in Istanbul between 1906-1909 and attended courses of renowned literary figures such as Riza Tevfik (B?lükba??) and Ahmet Hikmet (Müftüo?lu) where he had the opportunity to meet many other intellectuals. One of the names Sur succeeded to meet in Istanbul was the famous poetess of that period, Nigar Hanim. Sur, after meeting with Nigar Han?m, wrote an article about her life and her understanding of art and sent it to the Füyuzat periodical in Baku, published by Ali Bey Huseyinzade. This article, possibly, being the first academic article on Nigar Hanim, at the same time, was the first and only publication in the Caucasus press media about Nigar Hanim. The poem entitled "??rp?nma"( Stop, oh my heartbeats), presented by Nigar Han?m to Abdullah Sur, was also published for the first time in Baku, together with this article. In this study, the life and works of Abdullah Sur are examined, and the transcription of "A Turkish Poetess, Nigar Hanim" article and "??rp?nma"(Struggle) poem are presented
