DEVELOPMENT OF AN ACHIEVEMENT TEST ON SEVENTH GRADE STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF MATTER UNIT: VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY

The purpose of this study is to measure the "Structure and Properties of Matter Unit" in the seventh grade of middle school students with an achievement test. While developing the test, firstly, 13 objectives of the course were determined and 39 questions covering these objectives were prepared. The prepared questions were provided to the view of a science educator and a sciences teacher and the content was validated. The test for construct validity and reliability calculation was applied to 382 students who were educated in eighth grade in two schools in Kocasinan district of Kayseri province in the fall semester of 2017-2018. After SPSS analyzes, the reliability coefficient of the "Cronbach's Alpha" test of 21 questions was found to be .874. Subsequently, the difficulty and discriminant indices for the test were calculated and all the questions in the test were seen to have appropriate values. At the end, an achievement test with 21-multiple-choice questions for the seventh grade were prepared. It is recommended to use to measure the achievements of the students for matter and properties of matter unit
