Fārābī’s “Al-Fu?ūl Al-Khamsah”: An Analys?s And Translat?onKeywords: Laf?zlar?n Kullan?m?,?lk Bilgiler,?zsel-?lineksel,?nce-Sonra,?sim-Fiil-Edat,S?z,Tan?m,Resm Abstract: Fārābī’s “al-Fu?ūl al-khamsah” consists of the essential knowledge that is needed in the beginning of studying logic. The book comprising five chapters preludes a chapter in which the issue of words in terms of general and technical usage is dealt with. In the second chapter, the essential propositions that are known without an analogy and make various forms of thought possible are examined. The issues of “essential and accidental” and “before and after” are respectively examined in the third and fourth chapters. The topic of the last chapter is “the indicating words” in relation to the division of single (mufrad) and compound (murakkab). As Ibn Bājjah, who wrote notes (ta?liqāt) on the book, pointed out, the issues and problems indicated in the book comprise almost whole of the issues of logic directly or indirectly. Thus, it provides required intellectual background for a disciple desiring to learn the art of logic. In the first part of this paper, the content of the book will be analysed considering Ibn Bājjah’s notes in addition to Fārābī’s other works.
