THE EVALUATION OF HYDROELCTRIC POWER PLANT (HEPP) PRACTICES IN TURKEY FROM THE ENVIRONMENTAL PERSPECTIVE

Hydroelectric Power Plant practices have become a matter of debate nowadays because of their effects on the environment. The rapid technological developments, coming from the Industrial Revolution, have especially increased the pressure on the environment. At the same time, countries have become more energy-depended with the development of technology. The HEPP has become one of the fields to meet this energy demand. However, as the HEPP projects have increased rapidly in recent period, they have been brought to agenda in terms of their effects on the environment. In this study, the concepts of environment and hydroelectric power plant are mentioned in the first place. After that the relationship between environment and HEPP are emphasized due to the effects on the environment. Finally, the HEPP activities in Turkey will be examined with regard to their impacts on the environment by means of actual data
