Unethical Behaviors of Faculty Members in Classroom from the Perspective of Students

This qualitative study aims to determine the unethical behaviors that faculty members exhibit in the classroom environment from the perspective of undergraduate students. The study group of this research consisted of 30 participants selected from 946 (617 female, 329 male) junior and senior university students studying at seven different departments of the Faculty of Education at Mersin University (Turkish Language Education, Mathematics Education, Primary School Teaching, English Language Teaching, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Science Education, Guidance and Psychological Counseling) by considering department, year and gender. The data set was obtained by using a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers, which was analyzed through content analysis. Based on the analysis, it was found that unethical behaviors of faculty members could be examined under three themes, namely 'professionalism', 'attitude and behaviors' and 'evaluation'. In particular, the participants emphasized the problems related to the skills and abilities of faculty members in teaching and classroom management, professional commitment, profit from the students, discrimination, respect for students, and evaluation.
