Political myths as tools for nationalist propagandaKeywords: political myths,nationalism,propaganda Abstract: Political myths are stories that narrate the events of the past creatively through which ‘collectivities’ – in this context especially nations – “establish and determine the foundations of their own being, their own systems of morality and values” (Sch?pflin, 1997: 19). They are used strategically by the political elite as a part of their nationalist propaganda. This paper examines these myths through a general survey of Pan-Turkist journals published in the late 1930s and early 40s. It, at the end, aims to reveal the symbiotic relationship between Turkish foreign policy and nationalist propaganda as reflected on journals. The study could pave the way for understanding strategical communication tools by making use of an interdisciplinary approach
