The Ideas of Instructors Teaching Turkish to Foreigners About Problems Encountered in Assessment and Evaluation of Speaking Skills in Teaching Turkish as Foreign Language

Abstract:

The study’s aim is to determine the problems encountered in assessing the speaking skill of foreigners in teaching Turkish with foreigners according to the opinions of those who teach Turkish to foreigners. The study group of the research has 30 lecturers. The data of the study were obtained with the open-ended question asked to the study group. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis method. A code system was applied for both study group members and questions in the content analysis. Moving from the findings, it is possible to rank the following results: 1. The scales are inadequate according to the levels (A1….C1). 2. The instructors do not have enough knowledge on assessment and evaluation. 3. The students’ anxiety should be reduced before exams. 4. A process-oriented assessment approach should be applied. 5. The speaking exams must be recorded as video and by multiple instructors
